The CTM is the Collectivité Territoriale de Martinique, created in January 2016, from the gathering of the Conseil Régional and Conseil Général of Martinique. In order to develop future projects, they wanted to involve Martinican talents to design the new logo of the CTM. So, a competition was launched in August 2016 to determine the winner. Although there were more than 600 competitors, we all had the same regulatory requirements: first, being from Martinique! Then, thinking of how to make identifiable the country’s image across borders, in a modern way. And above all, introducing to it the following text « CTM or Collectivité Territoriale de Martinique ».
Before embarking in a creative process, I pondered over the main peculiarities of Martinique and what does CTM mean. One the one hand, I saw the association ( ?) or spirit of solidarity of the country… And on the other hand, I felt my native island like a country which wants to develop and to be in the world’s spotlight. So in the end, I decided to create this new logo, with an emphasis on simplicity and especially readability: I took my inspiration from one of the symbols of Martinique, the hummingbird also known as colibri, and from the colors of the island… I just designed an iconic form to symbolize the growth of France’s Overseas Departement which are naturally, culturally and humanly rich!
